Rules

RULE#1 LEAVE NO TRACE.

1.1 You will ride across some fragile ecosystems and protected areas, leave nature unchanged.

1.2 We support the activities of Leave No Trace.     Learn and practice their 7 principles.

RULE#2 RIDE SAFELY, RIDE RESPONSIBLY.

2.1 As the event uses roads open to traffic you must always know, observe and comply with local laws.

2.2 Helmet and front+rear lights are mandatory. It is also a legal requirement to wear a reflective vest when riding at night.

2.3 Riding highways is illegal.

Strongly recommends you wear bright clothing during the event.

 

RULE#3 RIDE UNDER SELF-SUPPORTED.

3.1 Just you and your bike, that’s all.   Riders are responsible for sleeping, eating, resupplying, bike repairs, accident handling, medical care and everything else.

3.2 In case of a medical or mechanical emergency use any kind of transport you need and return to the exact point to continue the ride.

 

RULE#4 BE SELF-SUFFICIENT.

4.1 Food, drink and belongings must be carried by you or acquired unplanned en-route. You are responsible for you own safety and logistics.

 

4.2 Using commercial accommodation and re-charge a e-bike is allowed.    However, any logistic support is not allowed.

 

4.3 Support crew or virtual base-camps is prohibited.   Unexpected and unrequested help en-route is allowed.

 

4.4 Strongly recommends you always bring: bivvy bag, SOS Kit, food autonomy for at least one day, sunscreen and addtional clothes.

 

RULE#5 KEEP ROUTE.

5.1 In this event  you must follow and complete the full official route.   You can temporarily leave it (to find food, rest, etc), but you must return to the same point you left off to continue the ride.  

 

5.2 No one will guide you along the route, you have to find the right route yourself.    We strongly recommend using a GPS device.   You must strongly prepare and study it.

 

RULE#6 TAKE OUT YOUR OWN INSURANCE FOR THE EVENT.

6.1 When registering for the event, you must submit proof of insurance that covers legal liability, death, accident and health during the event period. For foreigners, please also consider emergency deportation and repatriation insurance.

 

6.2 Be aware that all liability rests on you. The organisation won’t provide you any kind of insurance for the ride and will not held liable for any damage whatsoever that may occur directly and/or indirectly to you or other parties.    The organization assumes no legal responsibility of any kind.

 

RULE#7 ACT HONORABLY.

There are not how can we ensure riders comply with the rules.   The honorable agreement is inherent to bikepacking events. This can be a fair event, it just depends on you.
